Sick

I woke up with a pounding head, scratchy throat, and stuffy nose this morning. Jim woke up and headed off to work in the wee hours of the morning. Before he left I heard him get Tralee and set her up with some blocks in her room while saying, "Mommy doesn't feel well, play with blocks, and let her sleep a little longer." If I didn't feel like my head was between the jaws of a crocodile, I might have leaped out of bed and given him a kiss for being so sweet. Instead, I kept my eyes closed, and crossed my fingers that his plan of occupying our daughter would work -- at least for fifteen minutes or so.

I'm not sure when Tralee discovered that the lump under the covers was her mother, but as soon as she did, she joined me up on the bed. Lucky for me, Tralee sat on our bed and played with blocks, lifted up my shirt and used my every-expanding belly for a drum, and snuggled with me now-and-then as she patiently waited for me to arise. I finally got up (even though my body was begging me to stay in bed all day) as soon as my brain convinced my body that Tralee's soggy diaper could wait no longer. It was quite the fight as Brain and Body had two very different views on how the day should go with a cold.

Brain argued that, even though we're sick today, doesn't stop the fact that we're a mom first and foremost, and that a one-year-old can't wait for us to feel better. Brain continued to argue that Body should just take a Tylenol (as they're allowed when you're pregnant) and get on with the day as usual.

Body put up quite the fight. She screamed at Brain to leave her alone, and just let her stay in bed all day. She even went so far as to curse this pregnancy, and the fact that she couldn't consume an entire isle of cold medicine to induce a near comatose state, while allowing Tralee to run amok around the house. As you can see, Body is a bit selfish and unreasonable when she's sick.

Of course I listened Brain. I got out of bed and took care of Tralee. However, as soon as I sat up a few sneezes escaped my mouth which added to the pounding of my head. I'm pretty sure Body did this for emphasis on her argument, it was effective but didn't work. I am a mother after all, and there are no sick days for mothers. Body will just have to deal. She might win out at Tralee's nap time though. Instead of cleaning and laundering while Tralee is napping, I think I might take a nap as well. The house won't mind if it's neglected for a day or two. I know this for a fact, since I neglect it even when I'm not sick.

So, I'm off to make some orange juice, pop a Tylenol in my mouth, blow my nose, and find some things for Tralee and I to do today.

Hopefully I'll fell better by tomorrow. At least for Body's sake, she's really ticked off she can't stay in bed all day.

It really is the pits being a mom and being sick, especially when you're pregnant! I really think moms should be exempt from getting ill! I hope you feel better soon!

And despite feeling so sick, you can still write cute posts! Hope you feel better soon! BTW, I LOVE Tylenol cold for daytime. It worked wonders when I was teaching. And the nightime stuff is great too! Wish I could give you some!
