Melts My Heart

I've mentioned before that Tralee does not give out hugs and kisses lightly. Except when it comes to stuffed animals, Corky, or her own reflection -- which she could hug and kiss all day. When it comes to Jim and myself, she just prefers not to dish out the love, no matter how much we ask, bribe, or beg. However, every once in a while there comes a moment when, for no reason at all, Tralee runs up to me, wraps her arms around me, looks me in the eye, and gives me a light little kiss on the lips. Then, for the cherry on top, she'll lay her head on my shoulder and go, "MMMmmmmm." It completely melts my heart! Just a few minutes ago I received one such moment from Tralee. I reveled in it, because just as fast as it came, it was gone again when Tralee spotted a toy she wanted to play with across the room.

I read that one-year-olds are completely selfish beings, who don't understand that other people have feelings. However, when these heart-melting moments emerge, I'm tempted to think otherwise -- even if just for a moment.

I never had my "heart melt" until I had a child. I think we finally understand!

I don't think that one-year olds are that oblivious. I know that Brooklyn senses different emotions in our house, and responds accordingly. I love it when little girls do sweet things. Especially when most of the day is spend throwing, kicking, and bonking her toys around the room.
